Alexa skill

Linking AvioWeather to Alexa, voice commands, proactive notifications.

AvioMeteo (Italian locale) and AvioWeather (English locale) are the same Alexa skill: they read a METAR for an airport on demand and — for Pro users — warn about active SIGMETs nearby. Linking your account is optional: without linking you can still get 1 METAR per day.

Link your account to Alexa

  1. 1.Open the Alexa app on your phone, search for «AvioWeather» (or «AvioMeteo») and enable the skill
  2. 2.Tap «Link account»: dashboard.avioweather.app/alexa-link opens in the Alexa app's locale
  3. 3.Enter the email of your AvioWeather account; you'll receive a single-use 6-digit code by email (valid for 10 minutes)
  4. 4.Enter the code: the browser confirms the link and returns you to the Alexa app automatically

i

No password is ever sent to Amazon. Linking uses OAuth 2.0 + a one-time email code — the same mechanism as the web dashboard sign-in.

Voice commands

  • «Alexa, open avio weather» — opens the skill and waits for your request
  • «Alexa, ask avio weather for the METAR at Lima India Romeo Foxtrot» — METAR for LIRF (Fiumicino) using the NATO phonetic alphabet
  • «Alexa, ask avio weather for the METAR at Kilo Juliett Foxtrot Kilo» — same pattern, KJFK

i

Spell the ICAO with the NATO phonetic alphabet (Lima India Romeo Foxtrot, not «L I R F»). Alexa's speech recognition is far more accurate on complete phonetic words. All times read by the skill are in UTC (zulu).

i

On Alexa+ (the new generative Alexa)? Launch the skill explicitly with «Alexa, launch the AvioWeather skill» (or «open the AvioWeather skill»). Alexa+ doesn't always route to a skill by name, so the explicit «launch/open the skill» phrasing is the reliable way to start it; then ask for the METAR as above.

Conversational briefing (Pro)

For subscribers with the unlimited skill (Dashboard-only or Pro) the skill doesn't just read a METAR: it runs a question-led briefing, keeping the conversation open.

  1. 1.Ask for an airport's METAR: the skill reads METAR + nearby SIGMETs, then asks «Would you also like the TAF?»
  2. 2.Say «yes» to hear the TAF, or «no» to skip it — either way the skill asks «Would you like the briefing for another airport?»
  3. 3.Say «yes» then the airport, or all at once — «yes for Lima India Romeo Foxtrot» or just «Lima India Romeo Foxtrot» — and the briefing restarts on the new field
  4. 4.Say «no» to finish: the skill signs off with «clear skies»

i

The TAF is no longer read automatically: it comes only if you say «yes», so you never wait for a forecast you don't need. A «no» never ends the briefing mid-way — it just moves to the next question. To close at any time say «Alexa, stop» or «cancel».

i

You can name a new airport at any time, with or without «yes» in front, to restart the briefing there. Free users keep the classic behaviour: one METAR per day, no conversation, TAF or SIGMET.

Proactive notifications

When a METAR relevant to one of your airports changes (category degradation, a new SIGMET appearing nearby), AvioWeather can send a notification to your Alexa device. The device lights up yellow (notification ring) and — if you say «Alexa, read my notifications» — you'll hear the updated METAR.

  • Go to Account → Notifications and turn on «Alexa notifications»
  • Notifications are sent only if the skill is linked and the toggle is on
  • Your Alexa device must have notifications allowed (a standard Alexa setting, not skill-specific)
  • No guaranteed minimum or maximum notifications per day: it depends on weather changes at the airports you follow

Pro

Proactive notifications require an active Pro subscription. If Pro lapses, already-delivered notifications stay readable, but no new ones are sent.

Unlink or revoke

  • From the Alexa app: AvioWeather skill → «Disable» or «Unlink account». Removes the link on both Amazon's and AvioWeather's side
  • From the dashboard: Account → Notifications → turn off «Alexa notifications» to stop receiving notifications while keeping the skill linked
  • After unlinking, the Alexa identifier associated with your account is removed within seconds

Languages and availability

The skill is published on the Italian marketplace (locale it-IT, name «AvioMeteo») and the US / UK marketplace (locale en-US, name «AvioWeather»). On Alexa devices set to German, Spanish or French the skill is not available: you can still link your account from the web dashboard in your language, but to use voice commands you have to switch the Alexa device's locale.

i

The data the skill processes is described in the «Alexa Skill» section of the privacy policy. AvioWeather only receives from Amazon the stable skill identifier (amzn1.ask.account.*) and the requested ICAO; no voice recording is accessible to AvioWeather.
